About Senator Schwartz

Senator Gail Schwartz represents Senate District 5, which includes 7 counties from the Elk Mountain Range, to the upper Arkansas River Valley, and the Gunnison River Basin.  Senator Schwartz was elected to the Colorado State Senate in November of 2006, and was re-elected to a second four-year term in 2010.  She serves as the Chair of the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee, is as a member of the Local Government and Legislative Legal Committees, and vice-chair of the Capital Development Committee.

Prior to being elected to the Colorado Senate, Senator Schwartz was appointed by Governor Roy Romer to be a member of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, and was elected to a six year term from the third congressional district to serve as a member and Vice-Chair of the University of Colorado Board of Regents.  Senator Schwartz has lived in Colorado since 1967 and has been a resident of the Roaring Fork Valley for more than 40 years.
