Sen. Irene Aguilar named as the Legislator Community Health Champion for 2013
Assistant Senate Majority Leader honored by Colorado Community Health Network
DENVER -- The Colorado Community Health Network named Senator Irene Aguilar (D-Denver) the Legislator Community Health Champion for 2013.
Senator Aguilar, who is a physician, serves as the Chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
"Having worked in a Community Health Clinic for 23 years, I recognize their value to the people of Colorado and am honored to be recognized by Colorado Community Health Network," said Sen. Aguilar.
Senator Aguilar has worked for more than two decades with the Denver Health Westside Family Health Center and is a member of the Denver Health Board of Directors.
At the legislature, Sen. Aguilar has fought for smart health care policy. Last year, she sponsored the Hospital Payment Assistance Act (SB 134) which will provide the uninsured with information about a hospital’s charity care policy. This year, Sen. Aguilar is delivering on Governors Hickenlooper’s promise to expand Medicaid under the provision of the Affordable Care Act.
"We are honoring Sen. Aguilar for being an advocate for Colorado's low-income individuals and families. Her understanding of health care and the vital nature of the safety net ensures that low-income Coloradans receive the health care services they need," said Annette Kowal, Chief Executive Officer, Colorado Community Health Network
Senator Aguilar serves Senate District 32, which spans central and south Denver. For more information, please visit Senator Aguilar’s website at http://www.aguilarfor32.com/.
