Senate President Shaffer comments on budget proposal from Governor Hickenlooper

Colorado State Senator Brandon Shaffer

DENVER— Today, Governor John Hickenlooper submitted his FY 2012-13 budget proposal to the members of the Joint Budget Committee. Senate President Brandon Shaffer (D-Longmont) offered the following comment on the proposal:

"I appreciate the work the Governor's office put into this budget proposal.  The Colorado Constitution requires the Legislature to pass a balanced budget each year, and 2012 will be no exception.  The Governor has provided the Joint Budget Committee with a good starting point, but ultimately this is a legislative responsibility that we take very seriously.  The Joint Budget Committee will begin immediately to craft a budget that uses Colorado common sense solutions to put people back to work and grow our economy."
