Senator Guzman Honored as “Legislator of the Year”
Senator Guzman accepts the "Legislator of the Year "award from MSU Denver President Stephen Jordan today
DENVER— Senator Lucia Guzman (D-Denver) was honored by Metropolitan State University of Denver as “Legislator of the Year”. MSU Denver President, Stephen Jordan, presented her with the honor today at a ribbon-cutting for MSU Denver’s Student Success Building and name-change celebration.
Senator Guzman offered the following comment today:
"You need a great education to get a great job in today's economy. Metro State is a fabulous asset for Colorado--opening doors for success and providing students with the skills they need to compete in the global economy. It’s an honor receive this award from a university that contributes so much to our community and our state."
Senator Guzman has been a strong advocate on behalf of MSU Denver. In the 2012 legislative session, she and Representative Crisanta Duran (D-Denver) sponsored Senate Bill 148 to formally change the name of Metropolitan State College of Denver to Metropolitan State University of Denver. This legislation was the product of years of assessments, community advocacy, and legislative negotiations.
MSU Denver was founded in 1965 and currently educates almost 24,000 students. MSU Denver has the largest undergraduate class in the state, and nearly 75 percent of MSU Denver alumni live and work in Colorado. The University strives to provide an individualized academic experience, offering a large number of major and minor programs, and a diverse student body.
