Senator Hudak Named Senate Education Chair

Monday, December 3 2012

Colorado State Senator Evie HudakDENVER -- Colorado Senate Majority Leader Morgan Carroll (D-Aurora) has named Senator Evie Hudak (D-Westminster) Chair of the Senate Education Committee.

Senator Hudak has been directly involved in education since the 1970s, as she has worked as a teacher, served on PTAs and numerous accountability committees, and was elected twice to the State Board of Education from the 2nd Congressional District. She has served on the Senate Education Committee since she became a Senator in 2009, and has been Vice Chair of Education since 2010.

“I am honored and humbled to have this opportunity to chair the Education Committee,” said Hudak. “Since graduating from college, I have been devoted to making sure that students have access to the best education possible. This is because I firmly believe that education is the key to our future. It can help the least privileged among us forge a better standard of living, it helps build a civil and respectful society, and it strengthens our economy by training the workforce and business leaders of the future. I am confident that good legislation will advance from the Senate Education Committee this year.”

Senator Hudak is a former teacher with two decades of experience at the K-12 and college levels. She is active with statewide educational organizations, including the Colorado School Finance Project and the Colorado State Accountability Network. Outside of education, she has been involved with organizations such as the Arvada Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters, and Business and Professional Women.  She chaired the Senate Transportation Committee during the 2011 and 2012 sessions.
