Senator Jeanne Nicholson named chair of the Local Government committeeDENVER -- Today, Senate Majority Leader Morgan Carroll (D-Aurora) named Senator Jeanne Nicholson (D-Gilpin County) as chair of the Senate Local Government Committee. Senator Nicholson is a former two-term Gilpin County Commissioner. During the previous legislative session, Senator Nicholson served as the Vice Chair of Local Government. In the next legislative session, Senator Nicholson will hold two leadership posts: Chair of Local Government and Majority Caucus Chair, a position the Senate Majority elected her to in early November.
“Given my background in county government and previous experience with the committee, I know I can be an effective chair of Senate Local Government. It is vital for the state legislature to maintain a healthy relationship with counties, cities, and special districts in our state. When we work together, we can serve Colorado families more efficiently and effectively,” said Senator Jeanne Nicholson. Senator Nicholson is a public health nurse. She has lived in the Gilpin County for nearly 35 years, and she currently serves Senate District 16 which was reapportioned to span Gilpin County, and parts of Jefferson, Denver, and Boulder counties. Today, Majority Leader Carroll also released her entire list of other committee chairs, vice chairs, and Democratic members for the 69th General Assembly, which will convene on January 9, 2013. | Search |
