Senator John Morse chosen as the next Senate President

Colorado State Senator John MorseDENVER - Today the Colorado Senate Majority Caucus designated Senator John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) to serve as the next Senate President. Morse will succeed Senate President Brandon Shaffer (D-Longmont) who will hold that position until the 2013 legislative session convenes on January 9, 2013.

Senator Morse offered the following comment on his designation as Senate President today:

“The time for politics and elections is behind us. Governing is hard, and it takes pulling everyone together-everybody in your caucus, everyone in the building, everyone outside your building. Let's move this state forward."

Senator Morse worked his way through college on a paramedic ambulance. He also served as the Police Chief of Fountain and as a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration. For more on Senator Morse, visit his website at http://www.senatorjohnmorse.com/

The Senate Majority caucus made several other leadership designations today. Below is a list of the senators chosen to fill those positions.

Senator Irene Aguilar (D-Denver) — Senate Assistant Majority Leader

Senator Jeanne Nicholson (D-Gilpin County) — Senate Majority Caucus Chair

Senator Gail Schwartz (D-Snowmass) — Senate Majority Whip
