Senator Steadman comments on today’s revenue forecasts

Thursday, September 20 2012

Colorado State Senator Pat SteadmanDENVER— Today, state economists from the Office of Legislative Council and the Office of State Planning and Budgeting released their quarterly revenue forecasts to the Joint Budget Committee. These projections will be used by the Joint Budget Committee to begin preparing for the fiscal year 2013/14 state budget. Senator Pat Steadman (D-Denver), member of the Joint Budget Committee, offered the following comment on today’s revenue forecasts:

"Both of today’s forecasts spoke to the challenges we face from economic forces in Europe, at the national level, and here in Colorado. While these forecasts show that some of the fundamentals of the Colorado economy are healthier than they were at the end of the recession, we also see where work must be done.

“Last session we passed a sensible, bipartisan budget that maintained funding for schools, helped our seniors and veterans, and allocated money for economic development. I believe we can still protect the services Coloradans value while crafting a budget that is balanced and responsible. This fiscal year we will focus on supporting small businesses, fostering job creation, and continuing to move Colorado forward.”
