DENVER─ Senator Linda Newell (D-Littleton) has been honored with the 2012 Legislative Award from the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for her support of children’s health. Senator Newell received the award during the April 14 PEDIATRICS conference, an annual meeting held to address issues of interest to general pediatricians and other health care professionals.
Senator Newell offered the following comment on receiving the award:
“I’m honored to receive this award from such a prestigious organization that leads the way in children's health across the country. I am strongly committed to improving the safety, health, and well being of children in Colorado, and I will continue working on their behalf.”
The Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is an advocacy group of pediatricians dedicated to promoting the health of infants, children, adolescents and young adults and to continuing to provide education on children’s health. Every year this organization honors a legislator who has advocated for children’s issues in the legislature.
Senator Newell has been a champion for children throughout her legislative career. She has sponsored legislation to construct the Child Protection Ombudsman Office, advance restorative justice programs for youth, improve and increase access to early childhood services, improve the child fatality review team and strengthen protections for children in foster care. She is also the founder of the bipartisan Senate Children’s Caucus .
