Senate President Brandon Shaffer offers comment in honor of Colorado Day
In honor of Colorado Day, Senate President Brandon Shaffer (D-Longmont) offered the following comment:
"Today, we recognize 135 years of Colorado statehood. Colorado has a history and cultural tradition that are as glorious as the Rocky Mountains that surround us. Our state is home to our nation's most beautiful natural landscapes and is a hub of industry and technological advancement. As a lifelong Coloradan and the President of the Colorado State Senate, I am proud to recognize Colorado Day today, August 1, 2011."
Colorado Day is an annual tradition of celebrating Colorado's acceptance into statehood. Colorado was first recognized as a state on August 1, 1876. Colorado Day historically takes place on the first Monday of every August.
